Mathematics Course Placement

In order to qualify to take a Math department course at the University of Missouri, students must have one of the following:

NOTE: Statistics, Financial Planning, or other math-related courses offered outside the Math department do not fall under the above guidelines. Check with the appropriate department for prerequisite requirements for those courses.

For New Students Enrolling Fall 2013

You must complete the ALEKS assessment no later than April 9 to be registered on time in an appropriate fall class schedule.

Although the ALEKS assessment will still be available for you to complete after April 9, you may be unable to sign up for some FIGs (and certain housing options) if your assessment is not completed by that date.

This requirement applies to all students, regardless of your major, ACT or SAT math subscore, college credit earned (AP, IB, dual credit, etc.) or FIG status.  It will take up to two business days for your ALEKS assessment score to appear on your MU records.  Completion of the ALEKS assessment by April 9 is essential in order to be eligible for some FIGs (and certain housing options) based on their course requirements.

You will login to take the assessment online through the links on the right, and there is no fee or registration required.  In case you are not satisfied with your score on the ALEKS assessment, you will be given the chance to take the assessment up to five times.  In addition, there is a free online study/review package that you can use to review and prepare for the ALEKS assessment and your upcoming math course at MU.  In most cases, your score on the ALEKS assessment will determine your math course placement.
